ABSTRACT
Objectives:
This article analyses document management systems used by law enforcement and judicial authorities in criminal cases. The aim of this study is to analyse the tools currently in use for electronic document management in the aforementioned units of public administration in the broad sense, as well as to develop directions for further changes in regulations that would enable the effective electronisation of criminal proceedings, taking into account all participants.
Methods:
The author presents individual solutions in a comparative perspective, highlighting key areas in terms of the effective digitisation of criminal proceedings. An important aspect of the study is the issue of system compatibility, i.e. their use not only for the needs of a specific public administration unit. Given the nature of the subject under investigation, this study employs both historical-legal and doctrinal-legal methods.
Results:
Following the analysis, the author draws conclusions regarding proposed systemic solutions which would certainly improve the effectiveness of the digitisation of criminal proceedings and, as a result, speed up their progress. An important aspect is to highlight the role of document management systems in the efficiency of proceedings, particularly in relation to the latest data on the duration of proceedings provided by the Ministry of Justice.
Conclusions:
The key challenges associated with the practical application of the discussed solutions are also presented. Key directions for implementing the suggested solutions were indicated, in particular those related to conceptual solutions at the strategic/political decision-making level.
